Kota Tinggi,a town submerged by water

It’s going to New Year after Christmas and a lot of us are already enjoying our holidays. But down Southern Peninsular Malaysia there are many families who do not have this season happiness and involuntarily cut off from aid centers and isolated eventually.

KOTA TINGGI * ,a historical town in the past and noted a notable & worst flood presently. This Old JB capital town were seriously crippled and sub-merged by flood waters. It’s inundated the town up to 1.5 metres high at some places. Residents cum victims are dicing up with dangers surroundings when the situaton is not expected to improve very soon as rain continues to fall heavily since 18th Dec caused Sungai Johor rising up.Kota Tinggi town had been described the flood town as turning the town into an island. All roads leading to the town including from Johor Bahru, Desaru and Mersing had been closed to all traffic.
*(22KM from my residences & workplace)

Over 70,000 flood victims in Johor and 17,000 victims in Kota Tinggi itself have evacuated and stationed at Relief Centres. Currently the numbers has been reducing as weather rising fairer. The death toll rises up to 12ppl till now 30th Dec.

Understand from our Meterorogy department the heavy rain which we have experiencing in southern Peninsular Malaysia now are resulted from the meeting of the wind from Russia and China and that from the western Pacific Ocean. So this situation brought thick clouds and ultimately caused uneven heavy rain to the southern part of the Johor.

I take this chance to express my sympathy and sorrowfulness to the flood victims especially my collogues and one of my best friend,Hai Chio who get trapped in daily heavy traffic & can’t go back home for a week. That’s big traumatic for them for year 2006.Unforgettable bitter moments.
